Now What? is a group decision-making app that helps you and your friends decide what to do — movies, restaurants, recipes, games, and more. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app collects, how it is used, and your choices regarding that information.
By using Now What?, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
Information you provide:
Information collected or processed when you use app features:
Product analytics: product analytics tracking is disabled in the launch version of the app. We do not currently send PostHog or similar product-analytics events.
Email addresses: email addresses are not collected through the launch version of the app because the optional email signup feature is disabled. If that feature is enabled in a future version, this policy will be updated before collection begins.
Information we do NOT collect: passwords, phone numbers, contacts, photos, camera or microphone data, device or advertising identifiers (IDFA, GAID), payment information, or browsing history outside the app.
Location is used when you request nearby suggestions or search for real places in location-based categories such as Dinner, Going Out, and Activities. The app requests foreground location permission only — it does not access your location in the background.
Your coordinates and place search text may be sent through our Cloudflare Workers backend to places providers such as Apple Maps and Geoapify to find restaurants, bars, activities, place details, and place photos. Your location is never shared with advertisers or used for tracking.
You can decline location permission and continue using non-location features and manually added ideas. Live place search and nearby-place suggestions may be unavailable without location access.
Nearby place results and related cache data may be stored locally on your device for a limited time to reduce repeated requests and improve performance.
We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or tracking. We share data with third-party service providers only as described in Section 5 and only as needed to operate app features.
| Provider | Purpose | Data Sent |

| Geoapify | Fallback or supplemental places provider for nearby place and location search | Approximate/foreground coordinates and place search text needed to return relevant place results |
| Sentry | Crash and error reporting | Filtered crash/error diagnostic events |
| IGDB / Twitch | Video game search | Game title search query |
| TVMaze | TV show search | TV show search query |
| AniList (via proxy service) | Anime search | Anime title search query |
| Expo / EAS | App updates and build infrastructure | App version and update checks |
| Google Maps | External map destination opened only when you choose to view a place on a map | Place/map destination information handled by Google when you open the external link |
| Apple / App Store | App distribution and platform services | App binary and platform/device information managed by Apple |
Search requests may pass through our backend before being sent to the provider needed to return results. Third-party providers do not receive your player names, decision history, group names, XP/badge data, or locally stored custom lists from us.
Local storage: Player names, decision history, XP, badges, preferences, squads, saved items, custom ideas, lists, and similar app data are stored locally on your device using standard mobile storage (AsyncStorage). This local app data is not transmitted to our servers unless specifically described elsewhere in this policy.
Server-side processing and storage: Our backend stores app content such as recipes, movies, and board games in Cloudflare D1. Cloudflare KV stores rate-limit counters based on hashed IP values for limited retention periods. API responses and certain normalized search/location parameters may be cached temporarily at the Cloudflare edge to improve reliability and reduce repeated provider requests. If optional email signup is enabled in a future build, submitted email addresses may be stored in D1.
Data in transit: All communication between the app and our backend uses HTTPS encryption.
Since Now What? stores most user-created app data locally on your device, you have control over that data:
